Cool Cars
![]() Of all the things I didn't learn in High School the one I regret most is : NEVER SELL A CAR.
If only us guys would have known...But who was to perceive that they would make cool (affordable) cars for only 20 years. Am I starting to sound like an old Geezer? Well I'm in good company. As I heard an old motor-head gentleman say the other day as I was admiring his Hot Rod...."It's never too late to have a happy childhood". I couldn't agree more.
This was my first car. Baby blue 1952 Chevy business coupe, 6 cylinder with a 4 barrel carb, split manifold, duals with glass packs, floor shift and custom blue and white naugahide interior. I owned this car for six months, then I found the 64 Super Sport below and traded up.
![]() This is a poor picture of a very cool car. Canary Yellow 1964 Chevy Impala Super Sport
327, 4 speed with duals and glasspacks...fun car.

This was my first Cadillac. WOW. I still remember the feel of a Cadillac. I don't know what they are making now but these old Cadi's were first class sleds. For 20 years I drove nothing but Cadillacs, through all the criticism and sarcasm. I always claimed that everybody wanted a Cadillac but they all had their own lame excuse for not buying one..."Too big...too expensive...my wife wouldn't like it...what would people think...I don't really like them.. etc.." (That's why they built Buicks and Oldsmobiles)
![]() This is the Cadillac Birth Center in Detroit Michigan one cold January day in 1971.
...The day I toured the plant...... very inspirational.
![]() 1967 Cadillac de Ville Convertible
This is Sherry's all time favorite automobile.
She got this when she married old Tom Green..
It could have been worse....
![]() ![]() Here is a couple of shots of our "Rodeo" car...1959 Cadillac Coupe de Ville. I bought this out of an old farmers barn for $500. Drove it home across Kansas with no tag or registration papers. (what could I do, I bought it on Sunday and everything was closed) It ran great from day one till I sold it through Hemming's Motor News a few years later.
Here's a story...My buddy Kingfish bought this 1956 Cadillac Eldorado for $75 on payments from a friend of our family. Kingfish and I wrecked this car going through an open intersection listening to BB King cranked up on the 8 track tape player. It took KF a while to pay this car off cause he kind of lost interest when they came and hauled it off to the junk yard.
I walked on to Bulger Cadillac's used car lot in Wichita one day and saw this 1965 Cadillac Sedan de Ville. It caught my eye cause it looked pretty clean and straight for being 12 years old. I inquired from the used car manager about the car and he said it had just came in and he didn't know much, except it was owned by a little old lady that only drove it to church on Sunday.....The odometer said 33,000 but when I started it , it really sounded bad....It had a hole in the muffler. (lucky break for me) Well the used car manager wasn't too impressed with how the car sounded so I bought it right there for $1100 cash. I drove it to the muffler shop on the way home. The car was brand new inside and out. The blue leather interior was spotless. The cigarette lighters had never even been used... and you know what? Sherry and I found out later that this Cadi was owned by a friend of Sherry's best friends' grandmother....and she only drove it to church on Sunday. This was for all practical purposes a NEW Cadillac for $1100. We drove the wheels off this car.
![]() This was a gorgeous 1974 Cadillac Coupe de Ville. I was having a fit of normalcy one day shopping for a Volvo station wagon. I was actually test driving one with the intention of buying it when this ORANGE Cad caught my eye. I stopped right then and looked at the Cad....took the Volvo back...returned and bought the Cad. What a wonderful automobile it proved to be.
(quite a close call)
![]() I drove this 1964 Austin Healey Mark II home one day from a car lot thinking I might buy it...I ended up buying a 64 Super Sport instead but my sister bought the Healey. Years later I bought the car from her and then later she bought it back from me. I then bought the car again from her and kept it until I sold it to a good friend in order to pay for our first record album. (with the stipulation that If he were ever to sell the car he would give me first chance.) Well he was not my sister....I never had a chance. These old Healeys are like nothing on the road. An incredible driving machine...I still to this day have dreams about driving this car...My sister tells me she does also..I wonder if there will be Austin Healeys in Heaven?
![]() Here is my buddy Kingfish and I with our company car a 1971 Plymouth Road Runner. We had a band called SHALOM based out of St. Pete Florida and this was our band car. We hauled our equipment in a Chevy step van painted the same beautiful color. Actually there were five bands on the road with these rigs. For more of Shalom and Young American Showcase.. Click Here..
![]() Every guy needs an old pickup. I bought this 1968 Chevy 10 short bed-step side when we moved to the ranch in New Mexico. It looked a little rough in town next to all the new pickups but it sure was pretty out on the ranch. My boys drove it more than I did.
![]() Here is a car that everybody or their sister owned at one time. This is a 1965 Mustang 289 V8 Convertible.
We sort of let this car fill in our sports car/rag-top vacuum. We get a lot of enjoyment from this Mustang.
We call it our 4 wheel motorcycle with a heater... Our investment for a sunny day.
![]() 1967 Chevy Impala HP 327 4 speed
With this car I can take 30 years off your life in 12 seconds. You will be saying things like.."Wow I haven't felt that since I was in high school!" or "Man I had a 67 what ever with a so and so engine......"
...A fun car...
One at a time would be nice......But..such is life.
![]() This was before a 1962 Ford Fairlane was cool
(But let me say that this humble Ford took us from Wichita to Miami and back)
![]() My current Cadillac is a Hot Rod Lincoln
